On August 13, 2015, The Federalist published “Conservatives Beware: The Speech Police Are Coming For You.” The column named Richard Pilger as head of the Election Crimes Branch and said he “was intimately involved in the initial DOJ interest in political-speech crimes in 2010.” It called him, in the author’s words, perhaps “the most dangerous man in the federal government that no one has ever heard of.”
That sentence is commentary. It is not a court finding. The piece attributed to the Wall Street Journal a claim that Pilger was then lobbying inside the Department to criminally police political speech. This site has not independently opened that Journal article for a headline and date, so the attribution stays with The Federalist. It is not restated here as a primary fact.
No Daily Wire, Gateway Pundit, Daily Caller, OANN, Deep Capture, Conservative Treehouse, or RealClearPolitics feature devoted to Pilger was located for this 2015 period.
